Fort Fairfield High School

Principal Mark J. Jenkins has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2001 at Fort Fairfield High School. Valedictorian is Hilary D. Flagg, daughter of Kenneth Taylor and Laura Flagg. Salutatorian is Benjamin G. Arato, son of Christopher and Holly Arato. Graduation exercises will be held at 2 p.m. June 10, at the high school.

Flagg has been active in the athletic program, participating in varsity cross-country skiing, running, and track and field. She was the 1999 Eastern Maine champion in cross-country and the state runner-up in 1998. She is a member of band and chorus, and is in Show Choir, Jazz Band, choir, and has been selected for the All-Aroostook Chorus. She is a member of the National Honor Society, received the Maine Principal’s Association Award, and was recognized as a National Merit Commended Student in 2000. She received a Maine Scholars Award in her junior year, and the Semper Fidelis Award for academic and musical excellence. She was a member of the team recognized for volunteer grant writing for the school bakery project in 1999-2000. She received Academic Achievement Awards in English, science, geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry, and French. She will attend Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y.

Salutatorian Ben Arato was active on soccer, basketball, baseball and volleyball teams. He is in Show Choir, Jazz Band and choir. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council. He has received Academic Achievement Awards in 20th century history, government and biology. He has been awarded the Bausch & Lomb Science Award. He will attend Bates College in Lewiston.
