AUGUSTA – During the spring and summer months, the public is more likely to encounter young, wild animals. Some people mistakenly assume the animals have been abandoned. Usually, the mother will return and humans are encouraged not to interfere.
Fawns, squirrels, raccoons and birds should not be disturbed. If you find an abandoned animal and you have pets, put them inside or leash them so they can’t disturbed the wildlife.
It is against the law to possess wild birds and mammals without proper state and federal permits.
