JEFFERSON – A Windsor woman died and four other people were injured Sunday in a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Route 32.
Doris B. Foster, 87, of Windsor died at the scene while emergency rescue personnel were treating her injuries, according to the dispatcher for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Foster was a passenger in a 1994 Oldsmobile sedan driven by Virginia B. Wilcox, 71, of Windsor. Winifred C. Reynolds, 83, and Margaret E. Millett, 71, both of Windsor, also were passengers in the vehicle.
Millett was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta by Waldoboro ambulance, where she was admitted in serious condition, the dispatcher said. Wilcox and Reynolds were taken by Windsor ambulance to Augusta General Hospital, he said, and Wilcox was later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for emergency trauma treatment.
The driver of the second vehicle, Robert L. Baker, 56, of Waldoboro, was taken to Augusta General by Windsor ambulance and was admitted, according to the dispatcher. Baker had no passengers.
The accident occurred at 2:22 p.m. Sunday on Route 32 when Baker was traveling south in a 1989 Dodge pickup truck. His vehicle apparently crossed into the northbound lane while rounding a curve and struck the Wilcox vehicle head-on, the dispatcher said.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash, which is still under investigation, the dispatcher said. No further information was available at press time.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Ronald Rollins is investigating the accident and Sgt. Daniel Sceviour is reconstructing the crash.
Emergency personnel that responded to the scene were Jefferson Fire and Rescue, Windsor and Waldoboro ambulance services and Augusta Fire and Rescue, the dispatcher said.
