USDA announces recall of eye makeup remover

AZUSA, Calif. – An eye makeup remover is being recalled because some bottles contain bacteria that can cause sight-threatening corneal infections, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced.

The manufacturer is voluntarily recalling 16,300 bottles of Pierre Fabre Physicians Formula Eye Makeup Remover Lotion after routine sampling found traces of two bacteria: Pseudomonas fluorescens and Pseudomonas patida.

No illnesses have been reported.

The product was sold nationwide through retail stores, pharmacies and supermarkets from March 14 through May 28. It was manufactured by Azusa-based Physicians Formula Cosmetics.

The recalled 2-ounce bottles have the number 698 on the back of the label and the batch numbers 0821 or 0601 on the bottom of the bottle. Customers can return the bottle to the place of purchase for a refund.
