Searsport District High School
Principal Arthur Wittine has announced the honor parts for the 2001 graduating class at Searsport District High School. Graduation exercises were held June 10 in the Memorial Gymnasium.
Valedictorian was Raechel Sadler, daughter of Sandy and Duke Sadler of Stockton Springs. Sadler was a member of the National Honor Society and Drama Club and was yearbook page designer. She participated in the Debate Club, French Club, Beta Academic Leadership and band. She was awarded the Maine Principal’s Award and was semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Award. She was Student of the Month in November of her senior year. She plans to study creative writing at Bard College in New York.
Salutatorian was Michael Vasiliauskas, son of Mary and Michael Vasiliauskas of Searsport. Vasiliauskas was a member of the NHS and National Junior Honor Society. He was president of the Concert-Marching Band and on Band Council his senior year. He attended the District 5 Honors Band Music Festival all four years of high school. He participated in varsity track and field and varsity cross country all four years of high school. He was student of the month for March of his sophomore year and May of his senior year. He was involved in drama all four years of high school and was an actor, on tech crew and lighting director. He was chosen as the Holocaust Human Rights Center of Maine 1999 Outstanding Student of the Year and received honorable mention for Artistic Interpretation of “Night.” He was in Who’s Who his junior and senior year and is lead guitarist in a garage band. He plans to study art education and photography at SUNY in New Paltz, N.Y.
First honor part was Jennifer Baum, daughter of Valerie Baum of Stockton Springs. She plans to study creative writing at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Second honor part was Timothy Wilson, son of Libby and Sam Wilson of Searsport. He plans to enter the U.S. Army.
