The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team has scheduled its alumni gathering July 1-2 in Orono. Black Bears coach Shawn Walsh and more than 40 former UMaine hockey players have signed up to attend the event.
Hobey Baker Award winners Paul Kariya of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Scott Pellerin of Carolina, along with Bob Corkum (New Jersey), Eric Weinrich (Boston), Garth Snow (Pittsburgh), Mike Dunham (Nashville), Jim Montgomery (San Jose) and Steve Kariya (Vancouver), are expected to be on hand.
Actor Kurt Russell, whose family owns a home in the Rangeley area, will be in attendance. Walsh stayed at Russell’s home in California last August while undergoing immunotheraphy treatments to battle kidney cancer.
The alumni hockey game is scheduled for July 1 at 4 p.m. Advance tickets go on sale beginning Monday, June 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and may not be purchased by phone. Tickets are $3 for adults, $1 for children 12 and under.
Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono is the site for the annual alumni hockey golf tournament, which begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on July 2. A dinner and auction will follow at the Oronoka restaurant in Orono. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the UMaine hockey office.
