Man robs Brewer Qwik Stop Video store, flees

BREWER – Police here are looking for the man who fled a video store with an undisclosed amount of money Wednesday night.

A police dog from Bangor was brought in and tracked a scent from the Qwik Stop Video store to the VIP Discount Auto Center where it ended, suggesting to investigators that the man got away in a motor vehicle.

Authorities also want to question four people who entered the store at the same time as the suspected robber. Police already have identified two of the four, said Detective Sgt. Perry Antone.

The five came in about 9 p.m., and police said two women distracted the clerk, having him look for movies for them. The clerk told police that when he turned around, he saw a man crawling on his hands and knees away from the counter where the cash register was located.

The man told the clerk he had dropped his hypodermic needle and showed the clerk the needle, Antone said. The clerk checked the cash register and realized that it had been rifled through and that money appeared to have been taken.

By this time, the others apparently had left and the clerk went to the door to lock it and prevent the remaining man from leaving. Antone said the man bumped the clerk in order to get out of the store. The clerk chased the man briefly, then returned to the store.

Anyone with information may contact the Brewer police at 989-7000.
