Moosemainea near conclusion

GREENVILLE – A photo contest, a moose art show, a craft fair, a fly-casting championship and a family fun day with entertainment are all on tap for the annual Moosemainea event, sponsored by the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce.

The monthlong event that officially began on May 16 with moose safaris and tours is dedicated to the region’s most popular resident – the moose.

Winners of the amateur photo contest that will cover moose, general wildlife and scenery will have their pictures included in the Chamber’s annual visitors guide. Other prizes will include whitewater rafting trips, seaplane rides, lodging and meals. Entries will be judged on Saturday, June 16. Photos should be sent to the chamber by Friday, June 15.

Exhibits of moose, including artwork, are on display in the Chamber’s visitors center through August. For more information on the photo contest and the exhibits, call the Chamber at 695-2702 or e-mail Stephanie Gardner, executive director, at stephanie@moosehead.net.

The finale of Moosemainea will be held on June 16 when a craft fair and a fly-casting championship will be held. There also will be MooseTales, a family event when moose stories and information will be provided about the animal and moose hors d’oeuvres will be served. The Wicked Good Band will perform at a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on the upper deck of the steamship Katahdin.
