ASHLAND – The Ashland Diner on Main Street was destroyed by a fire of unknown cause early Tuesday morning, according to local fire officials.

No one was hurt in the fire, according to firefighter Stanley Saucier.

The call came at 1:08 a.m., and firefighters from departments in Ashland, Portage and Masardis responded.

The owners of the diner and one-story building were Michael and Julie Carney. The eatery was leased and operated by Joyce Eastman, according to Town Manager Ray Beaulieu.

The building was valued for tax purposes at $30,000 and the contents for about $30,000, according to the town manager. It is unknown whether the structure or its contents were insured.
