2 escape uninjured from Brewer rollover

BREWER – Driver inexperience was believed to be the cause of a Jeep rollover involving two teen-agers in front of the Brewer Agway on Route 1A on Friday afternoon.

A 16-year-old male from Veazie and a 16-year-old female from Orrington both walked away from the accident uninjured.

According to Officer David Lord of the Brewer Police Department, the boy was traveling north on outer Wilson Street in an open-top Jeep Wrangler and attempted to swerve away from another car near the centerline. The teen-ager lost control of the Jeep and it skidded sideways on all four tires, jumping a curb and rolling over 11/2 times before coming to rest on its passenger side.

Lord said both teen-agers were wearing seat belts and remained in the vehicle during the rollover. Lord determined that the Jeep belonged to the girl, and although she had a license, the male was driving on only a permit. The male was charged with operating without a license.

Lord estimated the damage to the windshield, roll bar and passenger side of the Jeep at between $2,000 and $3,000.
