Price hard act to follow

With the recent resignation of Bangor High School long time football coach Gabby Price, a very huge vacancy has been left. Sure the position will be filled, but what very large shoes to fill for Gabby’s successor. Replacing an “icon” is a hard act to follow. Price not only was an outstanding coach, but is and always will be an outstanding person. His ability to reach the kids both on and off the field will always be remembered. The fact that many of his former players continue to contact him speaks for itself. Though our paths crossed briefly over the years since we graduated, it is an honor to know such a remarkable person. Good luck Mr. Price in your future endeavors, and the best of luck to whomever is chosen to succeed him.

UM should ban baiting

A few weeks ago a writer wrote a letter in reference to the cruelty of bear baiting. Bear baiting is cowardly and I am questioning the fact that the University of Maine allows bear baiting with permission on its experimental forest in Eddington off the Chemo Pond road. Occasionally, I walk there, and during bear hunting season I have observed the gates left open to accommodate hunters. Some pickup trucks had day-old bread and pastries in the back beds. Rather than encourage this inhumane method of killing our bear, I would hope the University would forbid it on its lands – period.
