Portland man stabbed in Westbrook melee

WESTBROOK – A 19-year-old Portland man was stabbed during a brawl in Westbrook involving more than 60 people early Sunday, police said.

Matthew Guimond was stabbed during a party at a home on Duck Pond Road. More than 100 people were at the residence when police arrived.

Some of those at the party tried to take Guimond to the hospital, but they stopped at a nearby convenience store instead and called for help.

Westbrook Police Chief Steven Roberts said Guimond was stabbed at least twice in the chest and liver, and underwent surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was listed in stable condition Sunday.

Another person attending the party was treated at Maine Medical Center for injuries from a baseball bat. Police said that because of the large number of people at the party and conflicting information they were given, they were having difficulty identifying suspects.
