PORTLAND – A city worker accused of soliciting a prostitute while on duty has pleaded innocent.

David Melendez of South Portland was driving a Parks and Recreation truck and wearing his uniform when he offered an undercover police officer money for sex last month, according to police.

He allegedly made arrangements to return for the tryst after he got off from work.

Melendez did not appear in court on Tuesday. His lawyer entered the plea for him. No trial has been set.

City officials have said they will consider disciplinary action.
