DOVER-FOXCROFT – Production is in full swing at Dover-Foxcroft’s newest industry.

Creative Apparel, which is operating in temporary quarters at Brown’s Mills, a former tannery, has hired 21 employees, with more to be added later.

The workers from Charleston, Dover-Foxcroft and Sangerville are doing piecework on trousers for the military.

“It’s going very, very smoothly,” David Carr, supervisor of the new plant and a similar plant in Harmony, said Thursday. The Belmont-based business has plenty of orders, he said.

Carr said Thursday that the workers are being cross-trained to ensure continuity in the production work. Most of the employees are doing more than one job and are earning a base rate of $6.50 an hour.

But once the workers have settled in and “are up to speed,” they will be making $7 to more than $10 an hour, he said.
