Early Friday morning, Brewer police were called to Chamberlain Street for a report of a suspicious man prowling the area with a flashlight.
Shortly after 2 a.m., Cpl. Keith Emery and Officer David Lord approached the area with their cruiser lights off, trying to get as close as they could before being spotted. Near 95 Chamberlain St., a man was seen riding a bike in a circle, according to police reports. The bicyclist spotted the police and fled.
The suspected car burglar on a bike apparently wasn’t working alone, as Lord spotted another man creeping near a pickup truck in a driveway. The man ran, jumping a fence with Lord chasing him, eventually losing the officer somewhere on Holyoke Street.
The man on foot was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a light blue bandana and a light blue or black shirt, according to police.
A neighbor later told police that the bicyclist had ridden down Chamberlain Street toward Washington Street. The cyclist was described as being in his late teens or early 20s.
Besides finding a flashlight near the pickup truck, the officers also found that a Chevrolet Tracker soft top had its rear window partially unzipped.
The pair’s apparent handiwork was more evident the next morning as Brewer police received report after report of car break-ins, reported Sgt. Chris Martin. The alleged burglars appeared to have gotten away with small amounts of change, according to police.
Bangor police warned a man at an Essex Street apartment to quiet down late Thursday night and they arrested him when they were called back to the scene minutes later.
Called to 168 Essex St. for a report of loud music at 11:10 p.m., officers Chris Desmond and Russell Twaddell issued a warning to 19-year-old Kyle Crossman. The officers then left.
A neighbor reported that shortly after the officers departed, Crossman walked past her open living room window and began yelling a racial slur at her husband and challenged her husband to come out and fight him. The woman also said Crossman kept grabbing his crotch.
Crossman was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct.
