MONSON – Town officials have set the local tax rate at $16.50 per $1,000 valuation, which reflects a $1 jump in the rate. The rate was set on June 29.

The previous mill rate was $15.50 per $1,000 valuation, according to Julie Anderson, town clerk.

Higher school and county costs, plus an increase in road maintenance funds helped fuel the increase in the budget.

With the new mill rate, property valued at $80,000 will generate a tax bill of $1,320, an increase of $80 over last year.
