Markee holds on for 95 victory

HERMON – Greg Markee of Bradford withstood a hard challenge from Chad Ashey of Frankfort to win the Dysart’s 35-lap Sport Four Series race at Speedway 95 Saturday night.

Ashey, who started the race from the outside pole position, was challenged the entire race, first by Hermon’s Steve Moulton and then by Markee, who took over the lead when he and Ashey rubbed fenders at the end of a side-by-side run that lasted through most of the final 15 laps. Moulton eventually crashed out of the race while still in the lead.

Bilodeau surges to pro stock win

OXFORD – Bub Bilodeau of Standish started 17th in the 31-car field for the Pro Stock 35-lap feature at Oxford Plains Speedway Saturday night, but capitalized on his opportunities to win his second race of the season.

Scott King led the race for the first 22 laps, but gave way to three-time champion Al Hammond the next time around the track.

As the pair jockeyed for position, they created an opening for Bilodeau on the low lane and Bilodeau took it. Two quick caution flags brought points leader Gary Drew into the chase, but Bilodeau was able to hold him off every time by taking better lines through the turns and off the corners to the straightaway runs. King was the first to spin out of contention and was followed by Hammond, who was eliminated after getting bumped.

Bilodeau won the race by a car length over Drew while Kevin Kimball of South Portland was third. Bruce Haley of Minot and Jeff Taylor of Mercer were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Thibodeau credited his location at the front of the pack for his success in a rough race featuring several crashes that resulted in several sections of fencing being torn down. The worst of the crashes occurred after Bub Raven’s No. 49 care blew an engine out of turn four and soaked the entire front stretch in turns one and two with oil.
