BANGOR – A 20-year-old man faces multiple charges after fleeing police officers who had been called to stop a fight during the weekend at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Lt. Dave Kane said police shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday went to the hall on Allen Court after a report of a fight at an event billed as a chemical-free all-night dance party.
The fight had dissipated and its seven participants were scattering when officers arrived.
Outside the hall, Kane said, officers saw Christopher Huggins, address unknown, staggering toward a car. Despite officers’ warnings, he jumped into the vehicle and sped down the street, forcing officers to jump out of his way to avoid injury. With officers chasing him, he pulled into a nearby driveway, where he was arrested.
Huggins was charged with operating under the influence, reckless conduct, failure to stop for a police officer and a civil infraction for possession of drug paraphernalia, Kane said.
He said Huggins is enlisted in the military and based in California. The car he was driving was registered to a Bucksport woman.
