In regard to the article (BDN, June 23-24) about Matthew, Craig and Daniel Harriman and the savage beating of Michael Bryant:
Under our judicial system criminals, not the victims, are the ones who are supposed to be punished for criminal acts. It is a sad situation when people like this do not get punished because there is no room in our institutions to put them away.
One of the Harrimans will be going in the Army and that is why no charges are being brought against him. Again, this is because of lack of jail space and legal loopholes.
Criminals do not belong in the service. My first-hand experience with people like this who were give the option of jail or military service in the Vietnam era is that these people were hazardous and troublesome to the fellow servicemen.
