BANGOR – The United States Department of Agriculture has awarded Community Facility Grants to fund projects in Lubec, Cambridge and Skowhegan, members of Maine’s congressional delegation announced Monday.
Lubec will get $135,000 through USDA’s Rural Development Agency to replace decking at the marina, to re-establish mooring lines, to repair connections between sections, and to expand utility lines at the marina. This project is also being supported through a $45,000 Community Development Block Grant.
The Cambridge Historical Society was awarded a $3,850 Community Facility Grant. These funds are also being made available through the Rural Development Agency within USDA and will be used to preserve the history of this Somerset County town, to restore artifacts, and to preserve the old Flat School for future generations.
The Somerset Humane Society in Skowhegan will receive $19,250 to add a rabies and disease isolation area to the society’s existing facility. This project will be supplemented with $35,750 in cash contributions.
“These investments will allow improvements to community facilities in Lubec, Cambridge and Skowhegan that can ensure economic growth for these communities and their residents,” said U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins in a joint statement.
“These grants will help community officials to make valuable investments that will benefit residents now and in the future,” Baldacci said in a separate release.
