Holbrook edges Glenburn 5-4 Hermon, Bangor West earn wins

HOLDEN – Devin Ladd scored the winning run thanks to a ground-rule double in the fifth as Holbrook edged Glenburn 5-4 in Little League All-Star baseball action Tuesday in the ages 11-12 division.

Ladd doubled and then came home on a throw to second base later in the inning. He also had an RBI single in Holbrook’s four-run third. Chris Smith also doubled and earned the pitching win with six hits, six strikeouts and one walk. Brandon Gray added an RBI single.

Ben Strout singled twice and drove in two runs for Glenburn. Reid McLaughlin hit three singles.

Hermon 9, Orrington 0

At Orrington, Hermon’s Matt Berry hurled a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts to shut down Orrington.

Brent Dority led Hermon with a two-run double. Derek Helms added a triple.

Jonathan McAllian hit a double for Orrington.

Bangor West 19, Border 0

At Bangor West, Seth Gallant drove in two runs on a double and single as Bangor West cruised.

David Finch took a perfect game into the fourth. He struck out 10, didn’t walk a batter, and allowed just one hit. Ian Edwards had a single, double and drove in a run. Gordie Webb hit a two-run single.

Steve Nathan doubled for Border.

Old Town 12, Millinocket 2

At Brewer, Travis Niles and Lonnie Hackett combined on a no-hitter, striking out 10 batters as Old Town prevailed.

Josh Coffin had a double for Old Town. Andrew O’Leary had two doubles and knocked in two runs. Nathan Michaud hit an RBI single, as did Kirk Francis and Jason Smith.

Acadian 10, Bucksport 9

At Bar Harbor, Willy Clark shut down Bucksport on the mound with 11 strikeouts and aided his own cause with a pair of singles as Acadian triumphed.

Peter Worrick doubled for the winners.

Kyle McGeechan had three singles for Bucksport.

At Bar Harbor, Cal Shorey knocked in seven runs, hitting a single and a double as Calais took advantage of 10 Ellsworth errors.

Andy James had a single and three RBIs for Calais. Roma Hall had two RBI singles, and Donald Mull doubled.

Brad Fullmer had a pair of singles for Ellsworth, while Patrick Kelly had two stolen bases.

At Brewer, Justin Pete’s bases-loaded double sparked a 10-run first inning as Lincoln rolled.

Tyler Tash struck out seven in 3? innings for the winners. Pete totaled two doubles and three RBIs. Kase McKinnin had three singles and two RBIs and Wayne Campbell hit an RBI single.

Miles Gagnon, Robbie Burbank and Joel Adams all singled for Glenburn/Levant.

At Bucksport, Derrick Warren knocked in four runs on three singles as Bucksport won the District 1 Junior League title.

Joe Robichaud contributed with two singles, a double and a RBI. Robbie Pushard hit a two-run single, and Jason Legere had two singles.

Nick Ciomei had two singles for Coastal. Harrison Hinez had two singles, a double and knocked in a run. Blake Wessell had a single, double, and an RBI. Dan Hiltz had two RBI singles, and Jared Grindle had three singles.

Senior League baseball

Lincoln 8, Orono-Veazie 7

At Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium, Stephen Whitney had a pair of singles and Lincoln scored four third-inning runs on three singles and two walks to triumph in the elimination game.

Lincoln overcame a 3-0 deficit and broke a 3-3 tie with their four-run outburst in the third.

Keith Nason and Evan James had two singles each for Orono-Veazie.

For Little League baseball and softball all-star games, it is the responsibility of the host team to report the game to the NEWS because the host is responsible for providing the official scorer.

The host team is encouraged to report the game as soon as possible and to provide highlights and details for both of the teams in the game. If details are not given for both teams, then a story will not be published on the game.

The NEWS asks for a complete linescore with score by innings and total runs, hits and errors along with all the pitchers and catchers, and innings they entered the game.

Highlights for both teams should include batters who get two or more hits, get an extra base hit or drive in runs.

Junior League softball

Machias 19, Sunrise 18

At Harrington Monday, Daphne Nichols hit a double and three singles to help lead a 14-hit attack and help Machias avoid elimination against previously unbeaten Sunrise in the District 1 Junior League (ages 13-14) tournament.

Katie Stevens and Justine Ramsdell each had a double and single for Machias. Sarah Livingston doubled.

Mary Francis hit four singles, Haley Torrey tripled and doubled, and Elise Dublin doubled twice to pace Sunrise. Mary Eva Tenan and Katrina Beal each hit a double and single.
