Old Town in championship Brown, Bergeron spark rally

OLD TOWN – Allison Brown and winning pitcher Katie Bergeron had two-run singles in a five-run fifth-inning rally to lift Old Town by Glenburn 8-3 in Little League All-Star softball action for ages 11-12 Wednesday.

Old Town’s rally snapped a 2-2 tie and sent it into the championship round.

Bergeron scattered nine hits with six strikeouts and six walks.

Katie Parady had four singles and two RBIs for the winners; Brown and Bergeron had three singles each and combined for five RBIs; Amanda Heath doubled and singled and Cally Randall and Devan Richard each singled twice.

Cricket Munson had three singles and an RBI for Glenburn.

At Glenburn, Lindsey Stevenson tripled twice and knocked in four runs as Bangor prevailed.

Erin Dean had three hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs for Bangor. Stephanie Comstack had a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Katie Porter had three singles.

Ashley Smith led Glenburn with a triple and two RBIs.

Sunrise 13, Machias 12

At Harrington, Katrina Beal scored on Elise Dublin’s one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a comeback victory and give Sunrise the District 1 Junior League championship.

Sunrise trailed 12-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and scored six times to tie the game.

MaryEva Teenan had a home run, two doubles and a single to lead Sunrise. Dublin finished the game with three singles, while Katrina Beal, Mary Francis and Nicole Leach doubled and singled and Della Newenham and Alicia Fickett had two singles apiece.

Katie Stevens doubled twice for Machias and Ashley Day had two singles.

At Bar Harbor, Sam Stewart struck out the side in the last of the sixth, 10 overall, and Josh Beal provided a game-winning double for Sunrise.

Matt Beal knocked a double for the winners, who advanced to the finals. Kenny Ingalls hit two singles.

Bryce Colbeth hit two singles for Machias. Evan Look and Jacob Stevens each had a single and a double.

Acadian 13, Calais 11

At Bar Harbor, Steve Zirkilton belted a home run to go with a triple and a single, totaling six RBIs as Acadian prevailed.

Taylor Stewart hit two singles for Acadian.

Jordan Leeman knocked a pair of singles for Calais. Donald Mull had two singles and a double.

Brewer 9, Bangor West 7

At Brewer, Chase Daniels had a double, single and knocked in a run as Brewer won.

Billy Bissell added a two-run double for the winners and Steve Farley contributed an RBI double. Matt Helfen singled, and Dylan Fitzpatrick had an RBI single.

Ryan LaRochelle struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings for Bangor West. Nick Hurst had an RBI double, while LaRochelle, Travis Wood and Kyle Savage all singled.

At Brewer, a six-run third inning put the game out of reach as Bangor East won in 31/2 innings.

Nate Lewis had a triple and two singles for the winners.

Nolan Turner singled for Hampden/Newburgh.

Millinocket 4, Brewer 3 (8 inns.)

At Bangor East, Jacob Walsh’s one-out double in the eighth inning drove in Nick Cyr with the winning run as Millinocket edged Brewer to stay unbeaten in the tournament.

Brewer had taken a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning on runs by Trevor Kennedy and Ryan Nadeau. But Millinocket responded in its half of the inning with runs scored by Jeff Osborne on Deanna Michaud’s RBI single and Travis Deabay on a wild pitch.

Jordan Burleigh fired a two-hitter, striking out 13 and walking five for Millinocket. Travis Martin singled twice.

John Ambrose and Dave Perry singled for Brewer which fell to 2-1.

Orono-Veazie 11, Katahdin 0

At Orono, Max Winter hurled a one-hitter, striking out 10 and walking six over four innings, and he also hit two doubles and drove in three runs.

Brian McGowan, Brian Henigan and Tyler King had singles for Orono-Veazie and McGowan had an RBI.

Brett Gould’s second-inning single was Katahdin’s only hit.

Bangor 19, Hampden 1

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Brian Hackett and Anthony DeRosa combined on a one-hitter as Bangor won in the shortened-game.

Ryan Kearns had three singles and three RBIs, Ben Silver doubled and singled and drove in two runs for Bangor. Paul Russell singled twice and DeRosa and Hackett had two singles apiece.

Chris Morris singled for the only Hampden hit.

Orono-Veazie 13, Brewer 11

At Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium, Dustin Thomas singled home the tying run in a five-run sixth-inning rally and eventually scored the go-ahead run on John Tuell’s bunt single as Orono-Veazie rallied to stave off elimination.

Winning pitcher Thomas drove in three runs with a double and two singles; Nick Payson had two doubles and a single and Tony Raymond, Tuell and Ryan Prue had two singles each.

Raymond drove in three runs while Tuell and Prue knocked in one apiece.

Kevin McAvoy and Ben Davis had two singles apiece for Brewer and Alex Botello doubled. McAvoy had an RBI.
