As I watch the leaves shimmer in the breeze, I realize afresh how that all creation, except mankind, keeps busy at what each one was created to do.

The Earth is on its appointed route continually, never getting out of orbit or rhythm. This creates a suction action, thus the breezes and/or winds which motivate the leaves to do their work of extracting carbon monoxide from the atmosphere. I believe vegetation needs some carbon monoxide but not much of it is required to destroy animal life including humans.

The carbon monoxide that leaves pull out of the atmosphere is converted into oxygen, then injected back into the atmosphere for animal life to use and enjoy to sustain life. Animal life, including humans, could not exist without oxygen.

Mankind ignores all of this and being motivated by greed, they are mutilating and destroying our woodlands as fast as possible it seems. I could go on and on; for one thing about the water situation, but that is another story.

Correction: The letter to the editor by Hants White of July 13 contained an incorrect reference to carbon monoxide. White intended to refer to carbon dioxide.
