LINCOLNVILLE – Kelmscott Farm will hold its annual pig birthday celebration Saturday to honor the rare Gloucestershire Old Spots Pigs that live at the farm.
There will be activities for young and old all day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kelmscott Rare Breeds Farm imported 20 of the endangered Gloucestershire Old Spots Pigs in 1995. The current herd at the farm numbers nine, mostly breeding sows.
Piglet litters are expected this year as the farm carries out its goal of breeding rare livestock and selling the offspring to individuals interested in raising rare breeds. The global population of the breed hovers at less than 2, 000, with only some 60 pigs in the United States. Most of the Old Spots are in Great Britain.
