CHICAGO – Bridget Gagne of North Yarmouth Academy and South Portland High School’s Nate Thompson have been presented Gatorade’s State High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year awards and are now finalists for the national award as well.

Gagne holds state records in the 400-meter run (59.11), 800 (2:18.14) and 1,600 (4:59.20) and graduated with a 3.8 GPA. Thompson won the 300 hurdles, long jump, and triple jump in the Class A state championship meet.

In addition to athletic performance, the awards’ criteria include achievements in the classroom and contributions to their community.
