Millinocket’s 100th

I am disappointed the Bangor Daily News did not include any coverage of Millinocket’s six-day 100th birthday celebration of the town. The celebration included events that started June 29 and continued until July 4th. Hundreds of people attended, many returning to their hometown from all over the country. The parade was one of the largest in the state and included units from all over the state.

Donn Fendler, the famous author who was lost on Mount Katahdin at the age of 12, was the grand marshal. The Budweiser Clydesdales were here along with many other noted dignitaries.

Channel 5 covered some of the events, but during an interview of the Clydesdale people prior to July 4th, I thought it was very unprofessional for Lanie Witt to ask them why they would want to go to Millinocket. Apparently a lot of people did not share her feelings because the streets of Millinocket were lined with hundreds of people for the entire six-day celebration.

Happy belated 100th birthday, Millinocket. I’m proud to have been born and raised there.
