Old Town edges Holbrook for crown Pitchers key in 11-9 victory

OLD TOWN – Monica Hussey and Liz Bergeron combined on a three-hitter to help Old Town beat Holbrook 11-9 for the Junior Little League (ages 13-14) softball title Saturday.

Hussey and Bergeron totaled eight strikeouts as Old Town repeated as District 3 champions.

Darcy Spencer hit an RBI single in the sixth to help hold off Holbrook. Hussey and Alicia Day each singled twice for Old Town.

Anna Corey led Holbrook with a two-run single in the fifth. Kelly Ladd and Gwen Wadleigh each added a single.

At Old Town, Rachel Stearns’ RBI single in the first proved to be the game-winning hit as Holbrook knocked off Bangor.

Kelly White fired a four-hitter with seven strikeouts. Zora Merrill singled and doubled, and Anna Corey chipped in with two singles.

Bangor’s Jamie Gomm earned the loss despite striking out 12. Jessie Tweedie singled twice.

Bangor 14, Lincoln 2

At Glenburn, Erin Dean knocked in two runs on three singles to lead Bangor to a championship victory.

Jenn Herbert drove in a run and had three singles, and Lindsey Stevenson and Katie Porter hit two singles apiece. Stevenson also had two RBIs, and Porter had an RBI.

Brooke Hanscom, Hannah Delano and Jessie Fortin hit a single each for Lincoln.

Sunrise 27, Machias 18

At Machias Sunday, Mandy Ostberg smacked four singles and a double to power Sunrise past Machias.

Sam Baker singled twice and added a triple. Jessica Tenan and Tasha Daley each doubled and singled, and Mallory Emerson chipped in with two doubles.

Felicia Wood paced Machias with three singles. Jana Espling hit a double and a single. Keila Demmons and Bree Nicely each singled twice.

At Machias on Saturday, Anna Seavey notched two singles to lead Ellsworth to victory.

Lauren Peer and Maggie Harding followed up with a single apiece.

Bree Nicely recorded three singles for Machias. Jana Espling, Kassie Corbett and Miranda Preston hit two singles each.

Bangor East 7, Lincoln 6

At Brewer Saturday, Mack Susi struck out 13 batters and notched an RBI single to carry Bangor East.

Nate Lewis knocked in a run on two doubles for Bangor East. Dylan Lyshon had an RBI double and Chad Kelley recorded two singles and four stolen bases.

Justin Pete led Lincoln with two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Kane McKinnon followed up with a double.

Orono-Veazie 12, Glenburn 1

At Brewer Saturday, Dan Taft held Glenburn to only six hits after striking out 12 batters for Orono-Veazie.

Bill Weatherbee notched a three-run double in the fifth, and Nate Hennigan recorded two singles and a double for Orono-Veazie.

Jared Theriault hit two singles and a double for Glenburn, and Tim Kenerson added two singles.

At Brewer Sunday, Jonathan Johnson notched a two-run single in the third to start a high-scoring inning for Hampden.

Josh Tardiff followed up with two singles and an RBI for Hampden.

Jason Smith, Nathan Michaud and Josh Coffin hit two singles apiece for Old Town. Michaud and Coffin also had an RBI each. Zack Kochis had a two-run single.

Lincoln 12, Orono/Veazie 2

At Brewer Sunday, Tyler Tash notched an inside-the-park grand slam to lead Lincoln to victory.

Travis Languin and Nathan Ireland contributed a single apiece for Lincoln. Justin Pete struck out eight batters, holding Orono-Veazie to only two hits.

Tyler Pembroke led Orono-Veazie with two singles and an RBI.

Bangor 3, Hampden 2

At Bangor Saturday, Anthony DeRosa drove in Cory Worcester on a single in the seventh inning to give Bangor the District 3 championship title.

Worcester had previously notched two singles for Bangor.

Cliff Gardner and Jason Huntley had a single apiece for Hampden.

Bangor advanced to Saturday’s state tourney in Auburn.
