Police hope to get to root of tree theft in Bangor

A bonsai tree was taken Friday night from the back deck of a second-floor Bangor apartment, according to a police report.

The tree was kept on the deck with several other bonsai, according to the resident who told Officer Shawn Green that the tree is valued at around $75 and was in a brown pot valued at approximately $50.

Approximately 20 windows at John Bapst Memorial High School were broken this weekend, according to a police report.

On a side of the building that’s hidden from the street, the windows led to the auditorium and to a weight room, which had the protective screen torn off, Officer Jason McAmbley stated in the report.

Assistant Principal Ryan Hewes told McAmbley on Saturday that it didn’t appear that someone had been able to gain entry.

Hewes said he found rocks on the auditorium floor.

Damage is estimated at $500.

A 2000 Mercury Marquis stolen Friday from Van Syckle Lincoln Mercury Kia in Bangor was found Sunday apparently undamaged on Outer Essex Street in Orono near Forest Avenue, according to a police report.

Dealership owner Peter Van Syckle told Officer Tyler Leighton Sunday that he hadn’t known the car was missing.

A salesperson is believed to have seen the car leaving the lot Friday afternoon, but didn’t consider it unusual, according to Van Syckle.

The vehicle likely was taken during a lot move when it would have been unlocked with the keys inside, he said.

There are no known suspects, according to the report.
