BANGOR – Seven Sisters Downeast, an Ivy League college alumnae organization, has announced winners of its annual book award, all high school juniors chosen for academic abilities and interests, community involvement and effort in extracurricular activities.

This year’s winners received the book, “Passionate Minds: Women Rewriting the World,” by Claudia Roth Pierpont. Winners are:

Cassandra Hopkins, Washington Academy; Sarah Irving, Machias High School; Rachel Philio, Sumner Memorial High School; Erin Church, Jonesport-Beals High School; Owen Schoppe, Ellsworth High School; Erin Lucey, Hermon High School; Elizabeth K. Hewett, John Bapst Memorial High School; Melissa Patten, Bucksport High School; Kassi B. Reyes, Brewer High School; Emma Schroeder, Orono High School; Carrie Beals, Mount Desert Island High School; Karla L. McPhail, Shead High School; Lana Martin, Calais High School; Anne L. Harris, George Stevens Academy.

The alumnae organization includes graduates of Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Radcliffe, Smith, Vassar and Wellesley colleges.
