At Oxford, extrication crews and a medical helicopter were dispatched to Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday evening following a crash in a preliminary heat race.

Robert Lowe, 37, of Auburn, was knocked unconscious when his car struck the concrete retaining wall in front of the main grandstand, the Sun Journal reported.

Lowe, an occasional competitor in Oxford’s Strictly Stock, was listed in stable condition Saturday night at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to remove the roof of Lowe’s car.
