ATLANTA – Centers Tony Hrkac and Bob Corkum, both unrestricted free agents, signed contracts Monday with the Atlanta Thrashers.
The team also signed defenseman Todd Reirden.
Hrkac had 13 goals and 25 assists last season with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Former University of Maine winger Corkum split time between the Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils, collecting five goals and nine assists in 75 games. He was 26th overall in the league in faceoff proficiency at 54 percent.
Reirden, who missed much of last season with an injury, had two goals and six assists in 38 games with the St. Louis Blues.
Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
The 33-year-old Corkum, who had a goal and two assists in 12 Stanley Cup playoff games for the Devils, will be with his seventh NHL team. He could not be reached for comment.
The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Salisbury, Mass. native has 94 goals and 98 assists in 645 career games.
“The addition of these veteran players address very specific needs for our hockey club,” said Thrashers Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell on the Thrashers’ website. “Tony and Bob are experienced centers who excel on faceoffs. Tony adds an offensive aspect to our club, Bob is one of the stronger penalty-killers in the league and Todd adds skill and depth to our existing defense corps.”
Ex-Black Bear defenseman Brett Clark played in 28 games for the Thrashers with a goal and two assists last season.
Former Maine assistant Jay Leach was released as a Thrashers assistant by the NHL club at the end of the season.
