Johnstone to attend field hockey camp UMaine player garners national attention

University of Maine junior Jen Johnstone of Dallas, Pa., has been selected to attend the United States Field Hockey Association’s B Camp, which will take place July 25-29 at Penn State University in State College, Pa.

The USFA B Camp is the first of three rungs on a player development ladder that culminates in selection for the U.S. National Team. The camp’s best players are invited to A Camp, which serves as a player pool for the various national squads.

Johnstone, a National Field Hockey Coaches Association second team Northeast Regional All-American selection last season, was Maine’s leading scorer with nine goals and one assist. In two seasons for the Black Bears, she has tallied 14 goals and three assists.

“We are all pleased and ecstatic on Jen’s selection to B Camp,” said Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix in a press release. “She’s a highly talented and committed athlete and is very deserving of this honor.”

Johnstone is the third Maine field hockey player to get a B Camp invitation, joining Mary-Lou Winstel and Amy Corbett-Bernatchez in the exclusive club.
