Princeton festival opens today Fun includes parade, arm-wrestling, lawn mower race, fireworks

PRINCETON – A pancake breakfast, canoe race and grand parade will be part of this year’s Freshwater Festival.

The fun will begin today at 5 p.m. with a foul-shooting contest at the community center. There will be a shirttail parade at 7:30 p.m. and a street dance tonight at the West Street Tennis Courts.

Tomorrow’s events will begin with a pancake breakfast at Peabody Estates at 6 a.m. Morning activities will include a walk and fun run, a canoe race from Greenland Point to the public landing and a craft fair at the festival grounds. At 11 a.m. the grand parade will begin at the late Fred Moholland’s yard on Route 1.

Saturday afternoon activities include an historical display at the Princeton Public Library sponsored by the Princeton Woman’s Club. There will be a hayride, antique car show and 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

The 2 p.m. arm-wrestling competition will be followed by a roast beef dinner at the Princeton Road and Gun Club. Young peoples’ games are scheduled at the West Street Ballfield at 6:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m. a dance at the Princeton Rod and Gun Club sponsored by the Princeton Fire Department will round out the evening.

Sunday’s activities begin at 11 a.m. with a riding lawn mower race at the West Street Grounds. The Fire Department will hold its annual steak dinner at noon.

Sunday afternoon activities include a boat poker run at the public landing and a rubber ducky race. Activities will end Sunday afternoon with an adult versus youth softball game and a T-ball game. The fireworks will begin at dusk.
