Bangor hands Orono first loss of season in split

BANGOR – Bangor handed Orono its first loss of the season Saturday, 14-9, in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader.

Orono won the second game 12-11 and is now 19-1 while Bangor is 13-6.

In game one, Shawn Bouchard and Andy Sullivan each hit two home runs for Bangor while Jim Shea and James Strout nailed a single apiece.

Mike Merritt added two doubles and a single with an RBI as Ryan Brown notched a double and two singles with an RBI Orono

In game two, Brad Goody nailed a home run and two singles with three RBIs and also walked in Darryl Watson for the winning run for Orono while Chris Rand notched a double and two singles with two RBIs.

Andy Sullivan belted two doubles with an RBI for Bangor as Andrew Treadwell singled twice with three RBIs.

Sebasticook and Calais split two

At Newport on Saturday, Sebasticook Valley and Calais split wins in a doubleheader by identical scores as Sebasticook took the first 8-7, and Calais won the second 8-7.

In game one, Seth Bradstreet notched a double with two RBIs as Shawn Henderson and Steve Kennedy each nailed a single with an RBI for Sebasticook.

Steve Colbeth belted a three-run home run for Sebasticook while Doug Adams and Kevin Laughlin each singled with an RBI.

In game two, Steve Colbeth and Matt Hill each nailed two singles for Calais while Scott MacDonald doubled with an RBI.

Steve Kennedy led the Sebasticook attack with a triple and two doubles with three RBIs as Shawn Henderson singled and doubled with two RBIs.

Brewer, Trenton split

At Brewer Saturday, Trenton and Brewer each notched a win in a doubleheader. Brewer took the first 7-1, and Trenton won the second, 6-1.

In game one, Joel Barrett nailed a two-run home run for Brewer while Abram Allard, Adam Freeman, and Jason Work each doubled and singled.

Chek Wingo led Trenton with a home run as Brandon Colbeth, Chris Sargent, and Brad Dalton each belted two singles.

In game two, Mike Cowperthwaite pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts as Brandon Colbeth doubled and B.J. Greenleaf nailed two singles for Trenton.

Brian Sullivan doubled for Brewer and Freeman singled.

Penquis, Waldo split twinbill

At Belfast Saturday, Penquis and Waldo County split a doubleheader. Penquis took the first 9-4, and Waldo won the second, 9-3.

In game one, Billy Kane belted a home run and a single with an RBI for Penquis while Jamie Gray and Ben Smith each nailed two singles.

Ben Cowan singled twice with an RBI as Ben Relyea also notched two singles for Waldo County.

In game two, Kenton Spaulding and Chris Carman each nailed a double and two singles for Penquis while Cowan added two singles.

Adam Russell tallied an home run for Waldo as Ben Smith doubled and singled.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday, Ryan Worcester hurled a three-hitter in his first start of the year, fanning two and walking two, to pace the Comrades to the win.

Worcester also singled and doubled. Andy Treadwell paced Bangor with three singles and two RBIs. Jim Shea singled twice and Nate Hall added a two-run single.

Doug Adams and Zachary Ludington each hit a double for the Suns. Chad Pike singled.
