WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe has announced that three Maine fire departments will receive $195,016 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to train new and existing firefighters.
Snowe said the FEMA grant would allow Maine departments to provide training to ensure quality fire and rescue services. Grants are: $177,300 for the Gorham-Windham Fire Department; $13,693 for the Mattawamkeag Fire Department; and $4,023 for the Anson Fire Department.
The grants were awarded under the National Defense Authorization Act and are part of a $100 million effort to train firefighting personnel, establish wellness and fitness programs, buy fire vehicles and equipment; and fund fire prevention programs. For information, call (202) 224-5344.
