Medway events to celebrate Old Home Days

MEDWAY – Fireworks, a pig roast, a parade and numerous other events will all be part of Medway’s Old Home Days.

The three days of events will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, and will run through Sunday, July 29.

Administrative Assistant Kathy Lee described the event as a time for people in the community to get out and have a good time.

“There are all kinds of different events for the young, the old and for visitors,” Lee said. She said that last year a family from Australia came for the day, but ended up staying for the entire weekend. “They had a real good time,” said Lee.

Many of the events will be held at the East Branch Sno Rovers clubhouse unless specified elsewhere.

Activities scheduled for Friday include kids’ day events beginning at 10 a.m. and a hot dog barbecue at the recreation complex. An old time social will be held at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the crowning of Little Miss and Mr. Medway, honoring of the town’s oldest citizen, and a talent show. A teen dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Middle School. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will be lit from the Fiske pit on Route 157.

Saturday’s activities will begin at 10 a.m. with a four-wheeler rodeo, a magic show, kids games, an archery contest, performance by Ivan Clark and Great Northern paper-making demonstrations. An old time social, story time and an ice cream social will be held at 11 a.m.

Members of the East Branch Sno Rovers club will offer their famous pig roast at noon. A men’s best leg competition, firemen’s muster for kids and woodsman’s day activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. A magic show will be held at 2 p.m. Church services will be held at 6 p.m. in the Old Medway Church, and a street dance will be held at 9 p.m. at the DAV Hall.

Sunday’s activities will begin at 9 a.m. with church services at the old church, a “show-n-shine” car show and a huge yard sale at the middle school, and four-wheeler pulls and an “anything that floats race” at the snowmobile clubhouse. Other activities include a horseshoe throwing contest, archery contest, a magic show and kids games at 10 a.m.

The parade will begin at 5 p.m. from the Irving station and travel up Route 157 to the DAV Hall.
