A woman came to Bangor police Monday to complain that Randy A. Place of Brewer, 40, was continuing to harass her at her workplace, stating that he had been getting her in trouble with her employer although she had asked him to stop calling on the phone.
Place allegedly called the woman at her workplace from a room at the Cozy Inn in Brewer on Monday. The woman visited the police station during her break to report the harassment. Bangor Officer Larry Morrill reached Place at the Cozy Inn room and told him not to call the woman at her workplace or her home. According to police, Place told the officer that he would stop calling.
About 15 minutes later, the woman called to say that Place had called her four times, and left messages with her co-workers. Brewer police were asked to give Place a summons for harassment. Ten minutes later, Place apparently called the woman’s workplace and left a message with another worker that the woman was going to die. Morrill asked Brewer police to deliver a summons for terrorizing. About 15 minutes later, the woman, nervous after the threat, called to say that Place was near her workplace.
Morrill found a very intoxicated Place sitting across the street from the woman’s workplace. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail. En route, Place stated that he knew he messed up and wasn’t supposed to be near the workplace, and that the police were doing their job. At the jail, it was discovered that Place also had a warrant for unpaid fines from Ellsworth District Court.
During a routine traffic stop Monday night near Miller’s Department Store, Brewer police Officer David Lord noticed two people near the old Harborside Restaurant walk to the corner and split up. One person crossed the street, and the two continued to walk on separate sides of the street. Following the two, he recognized one as Rachel King, who was wanted on a warrant for assault.
Lord stopped King, informed her of the warrant and took her into custody. A used hypodermic needle was found in her pocket. According to police reports, King told Lord that she had found the needle and picked it up to throw it away. The needle was confiscated for testing and King was taken without further incident to Penobscot County Jail.
