A motorist who observed a man he thought was intoxicated driving his car to the Ohio Street 7-Eleven just before midnight Tuesday alerted Bangor police on patrol. They subsequently arrested the driver and his passenger on a variety of charges.
The silver Mazda sedan driven by Michael Dami, 41, of Dexter, was parked in the 7-Eleven lot, where he had driven from Miami North on the Odlin Road, according to police. When questioned by Officer Erik Tall, Dami, whose speech was slurred, admitted to drinking and told Tall, “I have a buzz on,” the officer said. Dami said his passenger, a woman later identified as Erin Green, 24, of Garland, was “drunk” and “wasted,” according to Tall. Dami was issued a warning and told not to drive, and Green was told not to drive either.
Police left but continued to observe the car. At about 12:17 a.m. it proceeded onto Ohio Street. Police followed the car, which pulled into a far corner of Quik-Stop Video. Dami got out of the vehicle, and after saying that he had weapons when asked, replied, “I was only kidding,” as he was being searched. After failing standard tests for intoxication, he was arrested for operating under the influence, police said.
Meanwhile, Green was asking Officer Brent Beaulieu if she could to talk to Dami. Beaulieu told her to remain in the vehicle. Tall and Dami were discussing travel arrangements for Green, whose taxi fare Dami was willing to pay. Tall was in the process of getting Dami’s wallet in order to get money for the fare when, according to Beaulieu, Green asked if Beaulieu was going to pay for her cab since he had taken away her ride. Beaulieu replied that Dami would pay for the cab. He said she then began to yell obscenities, saying that if she had to walk and was raped, she would sue Beaulieu and the Bangor Police Department. Beaulieu issued her a disorderly conduct warning.
Green then threw a hotdog and soda into the parking lot and was placed under arrest, police said. She resisted, struggling and yelling obscenities. After she was handcuffed, she threw herself over the hood of the police cruiser and was then placed on the ground. Dami, still handcuffed, began to kick the window and door of the cruiser from within, opening the door slightly.
Both suspects were taken to Penobscot County Jail, where Dami registered a 0.15 blood alcohol content. He was charged with operating under the influence, operation without a license and failure to submit to arrest. Meanwhile, Green, still enraged, misidentified herself to police and was given a warning for giving a false name. She continued to curse, and was finally charged with disorderly conduct, failure to submit to arrest, obstruction of government administration and failure to give correct name, which she later gave to a corrections officer.
Bangor police were called at around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to an Ohio Street residence, where a man was arrested for domestic assault and criminal threatening with a firearm. According to police reports, a caller told police that a man was beating a female. The man allegedly came out of the residence with a handgun and stated, “I’m going to teach you a lesson. “Police reported that Brian Hastey, 44, told the female to pack her stuff. An argument ensued and Hastey told her that she needed to be beaten. She ran and he tackled her, grabbed her hair and dragged her back inside the residence, police said. One witness said that Hastey beat the female with his fists while she was on the ground. Neighbors arrived and pulled him away from her and a black object identified as a gun was seen.
The female and her brother were met by Bangor police outside the residence. When Hastey came outside, he was handcuffed. He told police where the gun, three other weapons and a dagger were. Police interviewed the female before she was taken to the hospital. Hastey was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
An ATM theft resulted in two summonses for theft for 19-year-old Tracy Cammack, no residence given, and one summons for theft for 18-year-old Matthew Pete of Bangor on Tuesday. According to police, Cammack opened a bank account with Merrill Merchants Bank on July 9 with no funds. On July 23 she made several ATM deposits using empty envelopes and then managed to withdraw $100 from each of two ATMs.
Cammack allegedly made 18 balance checks, 16 “deposits” for $2,600 and 66 attempts to withdraw funds before being confronted by the branch manager of the Merrill Merchants Bank in Orrington. Pete assisted Cammack in depositing some of the empty envelopes and was with her when she withdrew $100 from a Main Street ATM, police said.
When questioned by Officer Jordan of the Bangor Police Department, Cammack admitted to the theft, saying that she owed the bank $200, which was originally intended to help Pete’s brother in some way. Cammack said that $100 was stolen from her, and that she spent the rest on gasoline and cigarettes.
