Mainers complete N.Y. IronMan

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Nine Mainers completed the Isuzu IronMan Lake Placid Triathlon Sunday. The race, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run, was won by Steve Larsen of Davis, Calif., in 8 hours, 33 minutes, 11 seconds. In all, 1,653 competitors finished the race.

Maine’s top finisher was Steve Fluet of Cumberland, who finished 176th overall and 20th of 282 finishers in the 40-44 age class, with a time of 10:42:40.

Local entrants fared well: Lynn Hughes of Hampden finished 543rd overall and 74th out of 282 entrants in the 40-44 age class in 11:43:46; Tracey Hughes was 870th overall and 43rd of 107 women in the 30-34 division with a time of 12:31:47; Stephanie Peavey of Orono took 996th overall and was seventh out of 32 in the 45-49 class in 12:52:11; and Richard Hart of Surry finished 1,379th and 18th of 27 in the 55-59 division in 14:10:05.

Peavey earned a trip to the world IronMan championships in Kona, Hawaii, with her finish.
