NEWS wins regional awards for writing, photography, design

The Bangor Daily News has won several awards from the New England Associated Press News Executives Association (NEAPNEA), in writing, photo and design for newspapers with a circulation of more than 60,000.

The story “IP shutting down two lumber mills” by reporters Mary Anne Lagasse and Judy Harrison won a third place writing award in the business and consumer issues category.

Photographer Caleb Raynor received second place in the feature photo contest for his photo “Baptism,” and photographer Susan Latham received third place for her photo “Lasso cowboy.” Raynor also won second place in the portrait division for the photo “Cow skull man,” and second place in the sports feature category for “Football player hug.”

In the special coverage design category “Protecting Maine’s forests” took second place. Graphics Director Eric Zelz, Photo Director Russ Kendall, Photo Editor Scott Haskell and graphics artist Barbara Ericksen contributed to the design.

The awards will be presented during NEAPNEA’s fall conference on Sept. 14 at The Westin Hotel in Providence R.I.
