WILLIMANTIC – Firefighters from surrounding towns were called in to put out a wildfire that spread to a camp and destroyed it Sunday afternoon.

The Maine Forest Service used a helicopter to fight the fire alongside firefighters from Monson, Guilford and Dover.

The fire began off the Green Point Road, burning a camp and about 2 acres, reported Deputy Doug Roberts of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.

Roberts said that forest rangers were investigating the cause of the fire.
