Harrington’s David Baldwin walked his way to two national championships recently at the 2001 Senior Olympics in Baton Rouge, La.

Baldwin, the University of Maine-Machias director of admissions, won the 1,500 meter racewalk and the defeated a field of 201 racers in the 5K event.

Baldwin’s time in the 1,500 meter race was 7:30.22 and he completed the 5K race in 26:38.00. His time in the 1,500 meter racewalk was the second fastest time in all age groups.

Competitors in the Senior Olympics must be at least 50-years-old.
