Montreal-based Domtar Inc. has completed its acquisition of four U.S. paper mills from Georgia-Pacific Corp., including G-P’s Baileyville mill in Maine.

The sale totaled $1.65 billion in U.S. dollars.

Domtar’s purchase also includes G-P mills in Ashdown, Ark., and Nekoosa and Port Edwards, Wis. The total purchase price includes $200 million for working capital, the company said in a news release.

“This acquisition will allow us to offer one-stop shopping to customers and, as a result, more effectively meet their ever-changing needs,” said Domtar President Raymond Royer.

Domtar is the second-largest producer of uncoated free sheet in North America and the third largest in the world. It is also a leading manufacturer of printing, publishing, specialty and technical papers.

The company manages close to 36 million acres of forest land in Canada and the United States.
