MACHIAS – Five graduates of Machias Memorial High School have scored high enough on advanced placement exams to be given college credit for some of their high school courses, according to Principal Terry Atwood.
Atwood said the students took the exams in May and recently received their results.
The advanced placement grades are intended to allow participating colleges and universities to award college credit, advanced placement or both to qualified students, the principal said.
Students who qualified for advanced placement on the English literature and composition exam are: Micah Hall, who will be attending Princeton University; Sarah Hussey, who will attend Husson College; Nathaniel Moyer, who is attending the University of Maine; Molly Phipps, who will attend University of Maine at Machias; and Greta Wink, who will be attending Messiah College.
Hall also qualified on the advanced placement exams for psychology and U.S. history, and Wink qualified on the U.S. history exam, the principal said.
Machias Memorial juniors Sarah Irving and Jared Worcester qualified for advanced placement on the U.S. history examination, the principal said.
