ST. AGATHA – Christa Lizotte scored an unassisted goal with 4:49 left in the first half to lift the Wisdom girls soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Washburn Friday as Aroostook County high schools opened their fall sports seasons. County schools stop play in September for harvest break.
Shannon Berube saved all four shots she faced for the 1-0 Pioneers.
Emily Campbell and Morgan Sickles combined to stop three of four shots for the 0-1 Beavers.
Madawaska 4, Van Buren 0
At Madawaska, Kristine Cyr booted in four goals to lift the Owls over the Crusaders.
Lynelle Winters contributed two assists and Ashley Cyr added an assist for 1-0 Madawaska. Meghan Marshall made eight saves on 10 shots.
For 0-1 Van Buren, Nicole Corbin scored on an assist from Micah LaPlante. Danielle Gagnon stopped five of the 15 shots she faced.
Boys soccer
Wisdom 6, Washburn 2
At St. Agatha, Andrew Gervais led the Pioneers with four goals, including one that came on a penalty kick.
Aaron Gervais followed up with two goals and an assist for 1-0 Wisdom. Todd Thibeault and Dustin Lugdon also recorded an assist each. Kenny Corriveau made 11 saves on 20 shots.
Trevor Thibodeau and Isaac Carney netted a goal apiece for the 0-1 Beavers. Carney and Josh Goupille had an assist each. Jesse Maynard and Seth Milton combined for four saves on 12 shots.
Madawaska 3, Van Buren 2
At Madawaska, Ted McHenry, Josh Michaud, and Marc Garcia each netted a goal as the Owls stopped the Crusaders.
Alex Daigle chipped in with an assist for 1-0 Madawaska. Steven Soucy turned away five of 10 shots.
Chris Masemola paced Van Buren with a goal and an assist. Tyler Hews notched an unassisted score and Sean Violette made nine saves on 16 shots.
