Reading recently about nursing home care, I was very happy to see it all in print about the care given there. I have had seven members of my family pass on in three different homes in the Bangor area; mother, sister, two aunts, one uncle and both in-laws. At first, they get good care, as they don’t know when family will be in. As time goes on, you can see they are not getting it.
One day my sister-in-law and I went to see her mother. We raised the roof off the building. She was sitting in a wooden chair, with no clothes on, near an open window in winter. We wrapped her in blankets and put her into bed, then we called for the supervisors. She died a week later from such a low temperature that they couldn’t get it up high enough to get her blood moving. She was in her late 80s.
Who was at fault? They say there’s not enough time to see and check on each one every day. Someday I might need a nursing home, but hope I have some of my mind left to see what they are doing for me. We pay also out of our own pockets for good and understanding love and care. Why can’t they get it? Everyone there had a mother and father at one time.
