Carmichael powers Houlton to opening victory over Hodgdon

HODGDON – David Carmichael scored two goals to power the Houlton Shiretowners to a 3-0 season-opening victory over the Hodgdon Hawks Monday.

Chris Austin also knocked in a goal for 1-0 Houlton and Dan Sussman added an assist. James Skehan stopped two of four shots.

Derek Nickerson made 15 saves on 27 shots for 0-1 Hodgdon.

Van Buren 8, Wisdom 0

At Van Buren, Tyler Hews scored four goals and had one assists to lead the 1-1 Crusaders to the win.

Chris Masemola scored a goal and had three assists while Jesse Parent had a goal and two assists for the winners. Andrew Martin contributed with a goal while Jeremy Chasse added an assist. Sean Violette and Dustin Cyr combined for three saves on 10 shots.

For 1-1 Wisdom of St. Agatha, Brad Thibeau stopped 10 of 33 shots.

Washburn 5, Central Aroostook 1

At Washburn, Trevor Thibodeau led Washburn with two goals, one unassisted and the other assisted by Isaac Carney, who also scored an unassisted goal.

Jim Bugbee scored with an assist from Trevor Thibodeau while Chris Pesut scored on a pass from Jesse Maynard. Maynard stopped 15 of 16 shots for the 1-1 Beavers.

For 0-1 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill, Bryan Grew scored on a penalty kick while Adam Grew and Jon Boyd combined for 27 saved on 32 shots.

Girls soccer

Houlton 4, Hodgdon 2

At Hodgdon, Sarah Beasley knocked in two goals to power the Shiretowners past the Hawks.

Hannah Socoby chipped in with a goal and an assist. Jenna Peters scored a goal and Claire Thompson had an assist. Anna Lenentine stopped 10 of 12 shots for 1-0 Houlton.

Jamie Nightengale and Shanna McGary netted a goal apiece for 0-1 Hodgdon. Amanda Fitzpatrick made 16 saves on 22 shots.

Van Buren 2, Wisdom 0

At Van Buren, Tosha Gagnon scored a goal with an assist from Jackie O’Hare, leading the 1-1 Crusaders to the win.

Cassie Caron contributed with an unassisted goal while Danielle Gagnon stopped five of seven shots for the winners.

Shannon Berube faced 20 shots and stopped 14 for 1-1 Wisdom of St. Agatha.

Central Aroostook 5, Washburn 2

At Washburn, Gabrielle Smith scored three goals, two in the second half, putting 1-0 Central Aroostook in the lead for good.

Jocelyn Carvell and April Clockedile each scored unassisted goals for the Panthers of Mars Hill while Jenna Robinson and Carvell each had one assist. Chantel Gagnon and Brittany Lundeen combined for five saves on nine shots.

For 0-2 Washburn, Amber Blakney scored with an assist from Heather Doody while Heidi Goodine had an unassisted goal. Emily Campbell and Morgan Sickles combined for five saves on 12 shots.
