PORTLAND – Five people were charged when police officers broke up a cockfight.
When officers arrived, they found two roosters fighting with blades strapped to their feet on Sunday. Four men and one woman were arrested, Portland Police Chief Michael Chitwood said Monday.
Two of the men, Tan Nguyen and Thanh Nguyen, both 41, face felony cruelty to animal charges, while three others face charges of viewing an animal fight. All were released on bond from the Cumberland County Jail.
The fight was interrupted before the roosters caused serious harm to each other. The Police Department put the roosters in its horse stable while seeking a good home for them, Chitwood said.
