A Portland team of 14-year-old boys is headed to the 2001 Babe Ruth World Series in Washington State this week. The towns of Longview and Kelso are co-hosting the event.

Portland will play its first game Friday at 8:05 p.m. against Longview. Portland will play again Sunday at 3:05 p.m. against Tri-County of Colorado, the Midwest Plains champion. The Portland team earned its bid to the World Series when it beat Stamford, Conn., in the championship game of the Northeast Regional earlier this month.
