EDDINGTON – A fire Tuesday caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to a mobile home on the Rooks Road.

According to Eddington Fire Chief Arnold Grover, the fire at 44 Rooks Road appears to have been electrical in origin.

The fire began about 11:30 a.m. when an electrical receptacle apparently overheated, Grover said. The receptacle was connected to wiring that served an air conditioner and entertainment unit.

The fire burned through a wall on the backside of the home. Firefighters had to cut a hole into the roof to let out some of the heat and smoke that built up inside.

No one was home when the fire began, Grover said. He said that the fire was reported by an individual who saw smoke rising from behind the residence.

Though fire officials weren’t immediately able to locate Claudette Fletcher, owner of the mobile home, Grover said a sister and son had been notified as of early Tuesday afternoon. He said he was not immediately able to determine if the home was insured.

Grover said 15 firefighters from Eddington, Brewer and Holden had the fire under control within less than 10 minutes of their arrival. Though Brewer also sent an ambulance to the scene, no one was injured as a result of the fire.
